About Southern Comfort Upholstery

Garry White and his wife Zelma have been breathing new life into old furniture from their Hornby premises in Christchurch for the past 20 years.

Recovering and repairing all manner of lounges, dining chairs, stools, armchairs, recliners, caravans, campervans and automotive upholstery continues to be at the heart of this family-owned, a five-person team of qualified upholstery experts.

Before finding his passion for upholstery, Garry was a furniture french-polisher. Today he successfully steers his business and is equally at home getting hands on in the workshop.

There is nothing Garry doesn’t do within the business or doesn’t know about excellent upholstery. Zelma is the administration wizard and showroom manager. She welcomes showroom visitors and has a wealth of knowledge and know-how about upholstery fabrics and styles.

The longest serving staff member, John, is a fully qualified and experienced upholsterer, who has been with Southern Comfort Upholstery for nearly 15 years.

Ian has been alongside for six years and is skilled in furniture framing, repairs and mechanisms, with a lifetime of experience.

Roger is the automotive upholstery expert, highly skilled at sewing and precision fabric cutting, he has been on board for two years.

As well as being the go-to upholsterers for retail chain stores such as Smiths City, Farmers, Hunter Furniture and La-Z-Boy Gallery, Southern Comfort Upholstery are also a one-stop shop for all your upholstery recovering requirements.

Recovering and restoring existing furniture brings many rewards and benefits.

“If you love a piece, it has good bones and it’s sentimental to you, you will be really pleased you kept it and gave it new form, function, durability and good looks Zelma says.
